Coffee, croissants and Josephine …

FullSizeRender

There is nothing more heart warming than a freshly brewed cup of hot coffee, even more so on a chilly day. So rather than reaching for a cup at home, I decided to bundle up and go out for one instead. And given that we are in the midst of Bastille Day celebrations, By Josephine seemed to be the perfect spot to channel my inner Francophile and enjoy said coffee …  but with a yummy croissant too.

Situated on Sydney Road Brunswick, By Josephine would have to be one of my favourite spots to eat locally. This quaint French cafe with its bright surrounds, cheery staff and pretty bunting offers a small but delicious menu of both sweet and savoury goodies that really delivers. It was the perfect way to start my day and get into the spirit of the occasion. And to extend my Bastille Day celebrations I couldn’t resist picking up some deliciously sweet patisserie to take home for both dear husband and I to enjoy … perhaps with a fine French tipple as we continue with our Le Tour de France viewing and marvel over the beauty of the French countryside, wishing that we were both there.

Lest we forget …

Today we honour and remember our service men and women, both past and present. And I just wanted to say that on this ANZAC day, I will not forget the sacrifice they made to ensure all the liberties that we as a nation enjoy today, now and always  …. how will you remember?

A Valentine in bloom …

img_1511When it comes to flowers I love a bouquet that looks as though it has spilled out of the garden and into a vase. So this year, for Valentine’s day I decided head to the flower market and gather some goodies to create my own bouquet and here is the result. It’s a little whimsical and wild, and I adore the  blackberries coupled with the burgundy and vanilla hues of the garden roses … whose fragrance I must say is simply divine, I wish you could smell them!

And the best bit is that it didn’t cost the earth to make. A modest $50 for stunning botanicals, and an hour of my time to gather and create, which as an avid crafter is all of the fun,  I know that my dear husband would completely approve of this Valentine.

What are your creative plans for your Valentine?  I’d love to know.

A Valentine’s crafternoon

With Valentine’s almost upon us it’s quite easy to fall into the consumerism of the day so I decided to take a more crafty approach to show my love just how much he means to me.

I decided to spend an afternoon crafting a tin full of red paper hearts scribing the 10 things I love about him. A quick, simple and inexpensive feat no doubt, but far more meaningful than any store bought trinket … I know he will just love it.

And to all of you out there I hope you all enjoy the spirit of the day by sharing the love with those whom you hold close to you heart. Happy Valentine’s x

Christmas in the city …

I love Christmas. And I must say that this year I have thoroughly enjoyed all the wonderful festivities my fair city has had on offer this past month in the lead up … whether it’s been the Town Hall projections, the mistletoe bridge at Southgate or the lighting of the city Christmas Tree in Christmas Square there has definitely been a wonderful Christmas presence peppered throughout the city to get one in the spirit of the season.

However my favourite moments would have to be those spent wandering about the beautiful laneways whilst on the hunt for Christmas gifts and decor, enjoying a cup or more of lovely hot chocolate from the likes of Koko Black, and discovering some rather whimsical Christmas displays along the way. It’s simple things like this that get me all excited about this time of the year and with only one more sleep to go I wanted to share a snapshot of all the wonderful things I have spied in town as Melbourne celebrates Christmas. Enjoy …

New York in the Fall …

After my recent meal at the Bowery to Williamsburg it made me a little nostalgic for my trip to New York a few years ago. So I did what most would do, reminisce by revisiting some of the pictures I snapped. There really is nothing like autumn in New York, and throwing Halloween celebrations into the mix made it a trip dear husband and I will always cherish … now to dream of our next trip to the Big Apple!
