Love, desire and riches … the fashion of weddings

Beautiful, is one word that springs to mind every time I think of the gorgeous Rippon Lea estate. So when I read that this National Trust gem was hosting a new exhibition titled Love, Desire and Riches I leapt at the opportunity to brave the chilly Melbourne air and head to the estate for the morning.

The exhibition is a beautifully curated collection of over fifty wedding dresses, both famous and rarely seen publicly from all over the globe. It spans over 200 years of fashion and incorporates pieces from the couture houses of Valentino, Akira Isogowa, Collette Dinnigan, Toni Maticevski, Gwendolynne to name but a few.

The highlight would have to be the Valentino as worn by Princess Marie Chantal of Greece, but all are amazing in their own right and I really do have a soft spot for the deco inspired gems from Collette Dinnigan and the very talented Gwendolynne.

Here are a select few images of my little adventure that I hope will inspire and encourage you to see them for yourself if you happen to be in Melbourne town this winter. You won’t be disappointed.
